Every booking through Airbnb, Vrbo, or Booking.com comes with a commission and no direct line to the guest. A direct booking site changes both, and it's simpler to set up than most hosts assume.

OTAs are excellent at bringing you a first-time guest. They're not built to help you keep that guest. Once someone's stayed with you and loved it, a direct booking site is what turns them into a repeat guest instead of someone who has to rediscover you through Airbnb's search results next time, competing against every other listing in your market again.
It also means you own the guest's contact information, which OTAs otherwise keep behind their own platform, and you're not paying a booking commission on a guest who already knows they want to stay with you again.
